Not your typical Super Bowl Sunday post

So it's Super Bowl Sunday and as usual, the Super Bowl is not on in our house. Instead, Anna and I are watching Annie (the one from 1982) which is, if you want to be honest about it, not a very good adaptation of the stage musical, but you have to give them credit for trying to pull off a big old musical production in the 80s. That was pretty much a losing bet back then. However, Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan is casting genius. Surely there are drag queens out there playing Miss Hannigan. And if there aren't, there should be.

In Bright Lights, Big City (one of my all time favorite books), Jay McInerney writes "Men don't trust other men who don't watch the Super Bowl." Or something like that anyway. To that, I say a resounding "whatever!" I was just talking to a friend today who seemed as disinterested in the Super Bowl as I am. How refreshing that was! Mostly, I just want to know what happened at half-time and which commercials were hits and which were misses. And you know what? You can watch all this online later and, most importantly, on my own terms. Of course, the fact that I never developed a taste for football probably plays a huge role in that. My dad didn't watch it, so consequently, neither did I. I can fake it pretty well during college football season and you can bet I'll know who won tonight before I go into work tomorrow, but beyond that, nothing.

I've also spent quite a chunk of time getting the taxes done. Once again, I managed to dodge the alternative minimum tax, although it seems like it's creeping closer to reality every year. Usually, I use Turbo Tax or Tax Cut or some such tax software, but this I did it the old-fashioned way, at the card table with, pen, and calculator (even though the only functioning calculator in the house was the one on the MacBook.) It turned out pretty well for us, which is good, even though thanks to the 11th-hour change to the laws in the alternative minimum tax, the refunds are supposed to take 7-8 weeks to arrive. But I can't find that anywhere on the IRS web site. So who knows. Anyway, it was a good thing.

And on Tuesday, which is also Super Tuesday AND Fat Tuesday, Casey Stratton is releasing his new record Orbit. I wish I could go buy it on Tuesday, but sadly, that's waiting for the next paycheck. Also on the radar, Guitar Hero on Saturday night! I've never played and fully expect to suck, but what the hell? I just have to get through 5 days of work. What a sad thought for a Sunday night when the week hasn't even begun.

It's a hard knock life, indeed (not really!)

I just can't look at Annie the same way after Serial Mom has been a major part of my life. Have you seen it? A particular scene involving Kathleen Turner, a cold turkey/some kind of meat on a bone, the opening credits for Annie and an old womans head.

How did Guitar Hero go? I'm still yet to try it out...

I have seen Serial Mom but it's been so long I've forgotten that part! I'll have to rewatch that sometime soon.

And Guitar Hero is this coming Saturday - the light at the end of the tunnel of the work week ahead.

Dan,

Seriously! Our similiarities are too numerous to list, the Super Bowl thing being one of them. I couldn't give two craps about the Super Bowl or any of the other football games during the season. I guess it comes down to me not wanting to waste 8 hours of my life sitting in one place.

Ugh. There's nothing worse than die-hard football fans. Especially the ones that wear jerseys.

I know what you mean. We were watching "Deal or No Deal" the other night (seriously, it's Anna's favorite show) and some uber football fan was on there and it was very difficult for me to watch!!

Now granted, I am probably just as annoying with the things I love, so I try to keep an open mind, but do not always succeed.
