Why oh why oh why oh why

For reasons completely and utterly unknown to me, I have rediscovered "Jimmy Jimmy" - that Madonna MASTERPIECE from True Blue. It contains some of the most stellar lyrics Madge has ever written, including such gems as:

"Why oh why oh why oh why oh why oh why do fools fall in love with fools like you?"
AND
"Oop shoo boop, oop boop shoo la la la"

It is Madonna cheese at, well, nearly the all time worst. But I can't get enough of it these days.

However, in all seriousness, it has a killer bridge as so many Madonna songs do.

I will not post it here though. Despite the fact that it is 22 years old (WTF??? When did this happen?) and this blog gets very little traffic compared to some sites, Madonna's people will surely find it and then sue me into bankruptcy. But you can watch a fan made video of it here, and listen to the song.

That is, if you dare.

For the record, Madonna's look in the picture above is one that I consider to be her worst. And that's including the "Boy Wonder with a gold tooth" look from the Erotica days.

Wow, worst look ever? Not for me. The gold snaggle-tooth thing didn't do it for me.

The pic looks like it's from the "True Blue" European video, which I didn't see until well after True Blue ruled the airwaves. Do you remember the fan-made video that won the "Make My Video" contest on MTV. It was better than the "Vogue contest winner" one, but still not quite what I had pictured it being.

"Jimmy Jimmy" is a great song, btw! I'm listening to it right now, in fact, thanks to your blog-notic suggestion! :)

I do remember that fan made video for True Blue! I also remember that just about ALL the other ones were better than the one that eventually won.

What does it for me in that TB video look is the white white WHITE hair with the dark eyebrows. It is just not flattering.

The other thing that got me to thinking, True Blue would almost be considered an EP in this day and age at only 9 songs.

Ah, I see what you mean. I am not a big fan of the "You Can Dance" cover, which I think has the same white hair/black eyebrows.

Funny, when Herb Ritz photographed Madge, I think it's one of the best pics evah of her. I guess it all lies in the hands of the photographer?! :)

Did anyone remember the very memorable Who's That Girl? look? Uh, wow. Could they have pasted the white any thicker? Hair was white and out of control. How about how she sounded in the movie? Even better. I bet she beats the maid everytime she is reminded of that stellar career move.

i love it when you listen to a song you are oh so familiar with and it just suddenrly seems more brilliant-er than ever! hehe. I'm currently adoring Til Death Do Us Part. It is very excellent.

In unrelated news, i watched a screener of Day Of The Dead the other day and know nothing about where it came from or how it fits in with the franchise. You are a zombie whore right? :)

I agree on the worst look call... that white hair/thick black eyebrow thing is the hardest for me to stomach, followed by her look at The Girlie Show/Erotica clip, then the curly medium-length do at the Blond Ambition Tour. I much preferred her massive pony-tail during that era.

"Jimmy Jimmy" gets so much crap but I still love it. I always think she's singing it to Jimmy from Desperately Seeking Susan.

Paul - Am I a zombie whore? Is the Pope Catholic?

Adem - I also abhor that curly hair look from Blond Ambition. That pony tail is just an iconic look for her. But wasn't her headset getting caught on the ponytail, hence the change to the Goldilocks look?

Wow, I'm always amazed at the posts that generate comments! :)
