Burned in the brain

When I was getting ready this morning, I was listening to the Like A Virgin album on my iPod. I always forget what a good album that is. Granted, if it were released today at 9 tracks long, Madonna fans would scream for her head, but really, it's a perfect length with great songs that encapsulate the mid-80s with great ease. Even the songs that Jeff and I love to mock (I'm thinking specifically of "Shoo-Bee-Doo" and "Pretender") are actually pretty good little pop songs.

But this morning, I heard the song "Angel." And as I was listening to it, I realized that I have subconsciously memorized the exact spot in the song where my vinyl copy of Like A Virgin skipped during that song. So instead of hearing:

You must be an angel
I can see it in your eyes

Full of wonder and surprise

And just now I realize

I hear:

You must be an angel
I can see it in your eyes
Full of wonde *POP* 'prise.
And just now, I realize.

It's funny how those things stick with me. And as you know, I just had to share it.

A full day ahead. Heading to my folks' house where there will no doubt be a large amount of satellite television and lounging around. I will also probably get the headlight and turn signal replaced in my truck. That is, provided I can get it started.

Must be something about scratches on that particular album then... There's also a bit on my copy on wax of that album during "Stay" which pops. During the "skoop-skoop" bit. My aunt's copy of the album also had a pop through, I think, "Material Girl." I can't remember, but I do recall sitting there as a child recording the album onto cassette and switching records for "Stay."

A few years ago none of Rachel Sweet's albums had yet to have a cd release. Rachel being one of my all time faves, I found someone on Ebay who had vinyl rips of three of her albums on cd. I promptly purchased them. It was such a pleasant surprise when I got them and their vinyl copies obviously had the pops in the same spots I remembered mine popping. It felf good. She has since been re-issued on cd and I have purchased them all as Japanese imports.
PS..if you're not familiar with Rachel Sweet, you should so check her out. Something tells me you'd like her quite a bit.
